Defending Consumers' Rights in Privacy Class Action Suits
How Identity Theft Occurs
Security Breaches Impacting Multiple Victims
For almost 40 years, Caddell & Chapman has handled significant and complex consumer protection cases nationwide. First, we will determine the number of people harmed by the security breach. Our goal is to file a class action lawsuit against the party responsible for violating, breaching, or failing to protect your sensitive information, ultimately securing each consumer the compensation they deserve.
We also represent banks and other institutions targeted in a security breach. In most of these situations, the data warehouse’s failure to protect private information led to a massive security breach. For example, we served as co-lead and liaison counsel in litigation against Heartland Payment Systems over what was then the largest data breach in history — impacting over 130 million consumer files. Heartland processes payment card transactions for about 250,000 merchants and handles an average of more than 100 million transactions per month and more than $80 billion in transactions annually. In late January 2009, Heartland admitted that it experienced a massive security breach compromising up to 100 million credit card numbers. Over the years, we’ve handled cases like this, advocating aggressively for our clients.
